Default rethreading bolt holes

I need some help from you guys. I was recently given some risers that were used and were crossthreaded. Luckily they were free, but they are useless to me at this point unless I can rethread them.

Is this possible or should I trash them and find different ones?

You should be able to rethread them, but for safety sake if it were me, I'd replace them. Nothing worse than having your bars come off when you're riding

I have rethreaded blind holes and used heli-coil inserts to get back the original size thread. On a riser I would not rethread a hole. The inserts would be fine and give original strength or better. Rethreading a blind hole usually is not going to give enough good thread and will be easy to cross up again. A little no hands is fine when you want to do it. No fun when you don't. Mike

How much length-wise of the threads was screwed up? Short distance, I'd try rethreading them. But that'd have to be less than 1/4 the length of the bolt going into them. Or counterbore the holes about 3/8" deep, rethread the remaining part to original thread size, screw in some studs, TIG them in the counterbored section, and then use nuts underneath the tree.
