I just installed some beach bars on my 05 RK Classic. The throttle cables reach, but the throttle doesn't twist freely.
I reckon I need longer cables.
My question.
Should I go +2 or +4?
I'm thinking +4.


What is the advantage of braided and/or stainless steel cables?
Since any excess cable will be hidden in the nacelle, I'm sure I will have a pretty extreme bend..will braided/steel cables be an advantage over vinyl?

 

Mainly it is about looks. But on older models that have the pre-bent metal sections in the brake line you will get better braking performance when replacing them.

 

Braided hoses have less 'give' in them under pressure, so when you apply the brake more of your effort at the lever gets applied at the caliper. Effectively they sharpen up the feel and power when using the brakes. I have them front and rear on my Glide and on heavier bikes like your RK I reckon they are a good idea. They also have the benefit of being readily available for changing bars like you have done, so they are a reasonably cheap way of getting longer hoses, with the benefit of better brakes!
