Torque values on service manuals- it's a range? Or not?
Good afternoon (In Italy), I'm italian therefore sorry for my poor english. I have a question about the torque values which are in the service manual: there are two number (for example 14-21 ft lbs) and I read on the web different opinions:
- the two numbers indicate a range and you have to torque at the middle of this range.
- the two numbers indicate the two steps procedure to torque the bolt therefore you have to torque to 14 and then to 21 ft lbs.
I've ever think that is a range because torque wrenches aren't all the same and because there are lots of other variables.
I tried to search in the service manuals (I have two of this, for 1997 evos and for 2000 TC) but I didn't find anything.
Thanks at all and sorry for the mistakes.

there are ranges listed in the SM for sure and you should hit the middle of this range as stated. Like the drain plug on a primary case; Manual states "tighten to 14-21ft lbs" so I torque to 18 and move on.
There are however torque sequences (such as rocker plate and rocker boxes) that specify initial torque value and then final torque value and those should be followed.
