What's up the the acoustics on a Harley?
Okay, the Harley sound I love, but that's not the acoustics I was talking about. I recently had a couple of trips on the bike and had issues with a few extra sounds that I didn't like.
Sound 1 sounded like it was coming from my rear wheel/brake area. Checked it all and then found that the real axle cover on the right side was missing 1 out of 3 screws and the other 2 were a little loose. A little rumaging through the extra screw/bolt container and I found a suitable replacement. Dabbed a little lock tight and figured, that was an easy fix.
Head out on trip number 2 and @#$%!# there is that same noise. And another chirping sound when I come off the throttle that sounds like it's from the front end. I heard a similar sound before on my FXRS, but that was from the front speedometer cable that was on it's way out. The Heritage doesn't have that, so I spent a bunch of time going through my front end to find nothing amiss.
Make it back home and just about to the house I put my hand on the right mirror and low and behold that annoying sound I thought was from the rear end was actually from the mirror. Get home and fix that one easy enough, then proceed to investigate the chirping. After a little searching on here suggesting to check my belt tension, low and behold it's the belt adjustment that's a little loose causing the chirp.
@#$%$!!$^@# Next time I hear a sound I'm going to the opposite side of the bike to look for the problem. Sorry for the rant, but I hate rattles, squeaks, thumps, ticks, etc and why can't the sounds sound like where they are coming from.
Rant over.
