Default How much for 05 RK classic

Hi guys, just found the forum this evening. I'm looking real hard at buying an 05 RK classic. The bike is the smokey gold/black two tone. MSRP is $17,895. The only option I want to add is the quick detachable passenger back rest. A local dealer here in San Diego say out the door for $21,000. What do you guys think? Can I do better, or is this a pretty good deal?

Thanks,
Rick

I've not personally priced them, but in what I've read, you should be able to purchase and take possession for MSRP and under a thousand $$$ blah, blah, blah fee.
Tack on the extras + labor ???

Someone, more in the know should be around shortly to better answer your question.

Skyking,

Just bought a new EG Standard...in the end, the only deal I was able to cut with the dealer was a $500 credit toward anything in the store (read: Chrome and a backrest).

I wanted the wife keeper on the back as well, and I went with the detachable back rest.

If you shop you will find a dealer that will at least give you that deal...I don't know what taxes are out there, but you've got that all rolled into that price...so hard to say.

Get him to print up the offer, and go over it line by line with him. Work it out, its your money, soon to be his money. So, take your time with it, and don't be afraid to go to another dealer and back it up.

You're in California, so you will have to pay an additional $100 for emissions, and the price he quoted should not have the Profile Laced Wheel Option - another $275 option...just know what you are getting before you sign! [sm=smiley20.gif] Last thing you probably won't be able to do anything about is the $270 freight...so to me that says you should be paying 17,895 + 100 + 270 = 18,265 not including taxes. Get him to throw in the back rest, the detachable mounting points, etc., and then add taxes to it...you should be somewhere in that ball park. All these prices were from my book they gave me when I was haggling with them. This is the deal the Yuma dealership was willing to give me.

Good luck,

Mac

Rick, you also need to see if the bike is completely stock or did they add some chrome themselves. This might be padding the price a little bit. Do like Mac said and go over everything line by line.

Here's the breakdown,

MSRP- $17,895
Alarm- 275
Ca Emiss- 100
Freight- 270
Dealer prep- 670
License fees- 180
Doc fees- 45
Sales tax- 1500

Total OTD- $20,935

I asked if they would add in the detachable passenger backrest for an even $21,000. They agreed.

So, is this a good deal? Do you think I could get the 1000 mile service included for this price?

Thanks,
Rick

SkyKing,

Let me pull out my sales price...that dealer prep Bullsh** has got to go...yep...I didn't pay that. My dealer said it takes about 2 hours to prep a bike...at $65 bucks an hour that is not going to get anywhere close to $670...that's 10 hours!

All other prices look spot on though. Not sure what all the parts are you need to get a removable backrest for the RK are, but all the parts the guys charged me for:

52886-98B Oval Pass Bakcrest Frame 99.95
52933-97A Backkrest kit, Low 149.95
53104-97B Kit, Docking, Hardware 11.95
53450-96D Docking Kit, passenger 29.95

Labor [:@] $65

So, for the Electra Glide the seat was $356.80.

So, you're still outside by about $300 in my book.

Talk to the guy into a pair of Screamin' Eagle Mufflers...they run about $319...

The other thing is this, $300 is $300 but it's still only 1 1/2 % of the total purchase price, and that includes tax.

I guess I would go visit today, offer him $21K to include pipes and backrest, tell him you will sign today if he agrees. If he says no, offer him your phone number, and walk away and give it 24 hours. If you decide you can live with the deal, DO IT.

In the end I don't know that $300 would keep me up at night if I knew this is the bike that I really wanted.

Good luck and let us know how it all comes out.

Well, I took the plunge today and ordered my 05 RK classic. $21,000 out-the-door was the best price I was able to negotiate. This included the passenger detachable backrest. I visited three different dealerships.

Geez skyking I don't know you had to order,I just came from my dealer today and I noticed that they had droped the asking price a $1000 on all or most of the bikes and I asked if there was a sell on and his reply was,I have 130 bikes I need to move some of them. So that should show that there still making money after cutting $1000 off. Any way good luck with your new RK.[sm=smiley20.gif]

Congrats! [sm=smiley32.gif] You just made the best purchase of your life I think. Sounds like you took the time to research it, and in the end you made a decision you were happy with. You certainly did not get taken, and I believe you did as well as anyone. Maybe if you spent $2,000 in planet tickets you could have saved another $500 They are an expensive investment.

Did you get to ride it out or are you waiting on delivery?

Congrats once again!

Mac
