Permatex blue threadlocker let me down!!
Hey guys,
Today on a 100 mile ride I lost my H/D billet shifter peg and the two bracket bolts that hold on my Big Sucker intake backplate came loose![:@]
I used blue threadlocker on both![:@] It's NEVER failed me before.....now what do I do? Go to red or green threadlocker? I ALWAYS use the blue and let it cure overnight, so, what's up?
I know that Harley's shake, but that's ricidulous![&o]

Hey Traveler, I just experienced just the opposite!! My tank bolts had come loose a few times before I got the radical flame paint job, so when I put it back together I cleaned the bolts and threads real good and but on blue... I thought I was going to twist the head off!! I have had red not be that strong... holy cow...

Like TC said, clean the treads on the bolt/stud, nuts and the bolt hole threads, I like to use electrical contact cleaner, to clean the old locker and oil etc. off with, and a brush if necessary. You don't need a lot of the locker, but you do need enough, I put it on both the bolt and in the bolt hole etc.. Do not use red locker on smaller diameter screws bolts etc., you will not get them back off usually. Also make sure the bolt or nut torque is correct.

There is a cleaner and a primer that is to be used . If you use these products you will have great luck. A issue I see many times mostly in rocker boxes is the old loctite left in the holes!!! You need to get that out, I use a old bolt that I have cut 3-4 slot's legnth wise in the bolt and run it down and back out. You can also use a thread chaseing kit . DO not use taps or dies as you will remove too much material.
The cleaner is 7070 and the primer is 24163 This helps activate the retaining compound faster. Being that I have worked on heavy iron in the past we used red 98% and green 2% of the time. Using the correct products makes your life easier. I am a chemical junkie I have a cabinet full of stuff. I always like to try new product to see if they work better. I have 4-5 kinds of cable lube LOL Everytime I go to the parts store I buy something to try soap , lube oil, sealant, something.
