Default rear pegs for Crossbones

Can anybody help? I ride a crossbones my wife rides a 1200 low, both single seats. We are touring the South of France next month and I want to be able to put on rear pegs if we go to a restaurant. I have bought the hardware for attaching the pegs but can not get the plastic/rubber bungs out from where the hardware needs to be fitted. I spoke to our local Harley dealer, he said the bungs just pop out, but I can not move them. It is a 500 mile trip to our nearest H-D dealer, so I would be very grateful if anyone can help. It would also mean Elizabeth will be able to have a drink at the restaurants.

Thanks for your reply, I was hoping not to have to ruin them, as I only want to put the pegs on for a short while. The bones will stay as a single seat for most of the time.
