Mounting a sissy bar

I just bought the detachable sissy bar, pad and locking hardware to put a passenger sissy bar on my '98 Road King Classic. The dealer said that it is difficult to put on.
Before I spend all Saturday working, has anyone done it who has some pointers? thanks
