Mothers Chrome Polish has worked well for me over the years.

This thread isn't the first place I'd heard of just keeping chrome clean, but unless you're washing the bike with distilled water, you'll have a film of minerals, soap, and whatnot on the surface. This is what is removed by polish, wax, or whatever you use, that gives it brilliance - the illusion that your product is better than someone else's.
As for NOT waxing, I can't really say. Like others, I'm not wanting to be the guinea pig using my scooter as a test model.
I suspect that whatever works fastest after a washing is the better product, which would make quickwaxes the winner. I truly cannot tell any difference whatsoever (and I tried) between one handlebar done with that and the other with metal polish. Except that fastwax spray went 5 times faster to polish.
Again; never touch a dirty bike with a rag.
