Default stripped tranny drain plug hole on '05 Deluxe

Hello'
What is the best fix for a stripped drain plug hole (tranny)? The dealer had a big nothing, he sang about removing the tranny from the bike, ya right!

Thanks friends,

How bad is it stripped out and how much room do you have to get in and work on it on the deluxe? You could re tap it to a different size plug, you could heli coil it, or as stated you could pull the tranny or the tranny pan if possible and replace the pan or drill and tap or heli coil it while the pan is off the bike.

take the plug to an auto parts store and see if they have an oversize self tapping drain plug. they have then for auto oil pans. maybe they will have one that will work on your bike.

That is what I would do. If you do drill it, just be sure to keep a magnet handy near the hole to suck up the parts as you are drilling.

put some grease on the self tapping plug. the metel fragments will stick to the grease as the plug cuts the new threads.

a few choices:
1-take plug to autopart "napa" is very good..they measure and give oversized magnetic plug.
2-take plug to autopart..they measure and give you oversized piggy back plug..This one does not have a magnet..you screw oversize part in and from then on use the smaller plug that sits in the oversized plug. This method causes plug to sit lower to ground and might be problem with a lift on some bikes.
3-look up the drain hole in transmission..see lots of thread available..it is actually threaded in more than the original bolt....measure bolt..probably 1/2-20..buy slightly longer drain plug of same original size..pilot point ?? no magnet..
*all three methods will NOT allow use of original O-RING..consider purchase of the metal washer with built-in rubber washer in center..Advance auto has them on the drain plug tree and so does pep boys...use a drop of the white LIQUID teflon stuff on bolt/drain plug(comes in little bottle next to locktite)...and hand tighten and then quarter turn..the pan is aluminum and the torque wrench will probably cause you to strip..
Avoid heli coils, inserts etc.. sometimes prone to leaks because of position.
Most dealers want to replace pan.$$$$$$
This happens every once in a while and shows up on the forum.
I did the oversized magnetic plug. (no leaks)

Aluminum alloy is non-magnetic.

Good idea, good post, never heard of this company before. Better by design than heli-coil, can't be screwed too far in, for this application.
