Default Oil tank paint

Picked up an extra oil tank for my 2003 springer to do a custom paint job. Got to thinking about the hot oil in the tank and the effect it might have on the paint. Anybody know what type of paint Harley uses on the oil tanks?

I checked with the dealership and they said regular paint wouldn't last long. Took it to the powdercoaters today. Thanks for the reply.

I have done several custom jobs on oil tanks, and have never had one fail yet.Think about it, look at all the custom choppers out there with custom painted oil tanks.I have done some pretty detailed art work on tanks with PPG clear over it, and have had great success . But, I do powder coate first to use as a base to paint on. Hope that helps.

Yes it does. I am having the tank black powdercoated which is the base color for the new job. I'll keep the PPG note and use it for the clear. Thanks much.
