Default Idle Cable Help

I'm trying to adjust my throttle/idle cables to clean up a 1/2 inch of slack in my Kuryakn grip. I adjusted the throttle cable properly as described in the service manual. However, I'm having a problem with the idle cable. I cannot get the idle cable to move towards or away from the spring that is visible in the slot on the throttle body no matter how much I turn the adjuster nut(s). The tension screw isn't clearing this up.

Have any of you experienced this? Is something broken? It still snaps back properly. There's just too much slack.

I would say to check the path at the throttle body to make sure that the cable is completely sitting in the troth on the spring loaded section. I it is not in the troth completely it will have excessive cable as it sounds like all you have done is change the grip. It is possible it may be out of the troth on the grip handle.

I recently put chrome switch covers and new grips on my 05 FXDI.

I adjusted the throttle cable as per the manual.

I then adjusted the return cable until the throttle would not return freely with the front wheel pointed straight ahead. I continued to back off the return cable until the throttle snapped back freely with the wheel pointed in all directions (left, right, dtraight ahead).

Pull up on the cable slightly just above the spring and adjust until it just hits the spring and then give it just a smidge of freeplay . Your not going to see any movement in the cable unless you put slight tension on the cable body .
