Default Scheduled Maintenance Question

Is there any place on this site where one can download an Owner's Manual? The reason I ask is because I would like to determine if there is any reason why I should take a 2007 Sportster to a dealer every 5000 miles and spend $300 bucks a whack. I would like to know just what needs to be done at what intervals and why I can't do it myself.

Thanks,
JPD

Don't know of a place to download owner's manual. You can find out what service needs to be done by going to the "motorycycles" page of the Harley website. At the top of that page, click "Owners" and from the menu that appears click "service check-up." Enter your VIN and you'll find what you need to do.

Now if you want to know HOW to do it your best bet is to buy the shop manual for your specific bike.

A shop manual is very helpful if you plan on doing the work yourself.

For simple routine maintenance Clymer's will do. But the HD manual is ten times better. It's got just about anything you'll need to know, except for electricals.

when i bought my 06 roadking and then again when i bought my 09 ultra.. both the set of manuals to go with them. electrical diagnostics, service manual, and parts manual. they are worth their weight in gold....

on my 06 roadking I brought my bike in every 1500 miles for a 3 fluid change. yeah i know, kinda **** but hey... it's my investment so I'll take care of it. but it does get kinda expensive considering when the RK went away, I had 43k miles on it.
the 09 ultra i'm going to push back to every 2500 miles and I'll do the work myself. its really easy to do and takes about an hour to get all 3 changed not being rushed. the clymer manual I purchased for my roadking but found myself using the HD manual more often so i didn't bother with that purchase on the 09....
