Painting bike
Hi I have a 1997 sporty and it has a couple chips here and there in the paint so I have decided to paint all the fenders and the gas tank glossy black to match the windshield I just bought. I was wondering, anyone have any hints or suggestions for me? I have a sprayer that goes on my air compressor so that shouldnt be a problem. I am just worried about dusting getting on the paint while its drying. If you have painted you bike before, did you wish you had done anything different when doing so? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks and ride safe

Painted before make sure to keep the air dry, I use a seporator on the tank and a filter on the gun. You need a clean place to keep dirt and bugs out of the surface when painting. Also have a spare piece of some thing to get the gun dialed in before spraying your parts. take it slow and make good even strokes with the gun.

you can buy inexpensive waterseperator/regulators at Home Depot. Also Home Depot used to have painters dropcloths that are 9'x16' and are plastic on one side and paper on the other. Use that and 1"x2"x8' wood firring sticks to make a paint booth(see attch. pic) and cheap box fan to draw fumes and overspray out. I build a 12'x18' booth inside my garage every time i do a paint job. Very inexpensive. Also get a screw on airfilter for the gun. Remember it's all in the prep.
Good luck.
