Default Cleaning burned shoe sole off pipes.

Made the mistake of riding the Heritage into work one day this week with my black soled Rockports on instead of my riding boots. Burned a nickle sized black spot onto the pipe.

What can I use to get it off without scratching the chrome on the pipes?

Thanks,

Rick

Mothers mag and aluminium polish will do it but it takes a lot of rubbing.
Leaves it clean with no scratches

Thanks! I'll look it up and try to find some. And, yes I too will only make this mistake once.

Get the pipes good and hot and bursh on a little over cleaner, the shoe marks will come right off.

I second the Easy Off (oven cleaner). Works like a charm. Warm up the pipes a bit, spray the stuff on, let sit for a minute or two, and wipe off! May require a few attempts though to get it all off (depending on how much gunk to clean off).

I AGREE WITH THE OVEN CLEANER. I HAD MARKS FROM MY BOOT AND MELTED RAINGEAR. EASYOFF WORKED GOOD. ANOTHER TIP IF YOU DO GET THESE MARKS GET THEM OFF AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE. I MADE THE MISTAKE OF WAITING OVER A WEEK ON THE RAINSUIT TOOK ALOT MORE WORK AFTER IT "CURED" ON THERE. GOODLUCK.

I would be careful with the oven cleaner or easyoff. If you over spray any of the painted surfaces. wash it off immediatly, it will ruin you're paint. HD sells a product not really sure what it is called ( BOOT something ) because I too only made this mistake once a long time ago. But if you ask in parts dept they will point you right to it and it worked really good for me. Which ever way you go, just be patient and good luck. BTW make sure you alternate the arms when rubbing. you don't want to end up with one arm bigger than the other.

I had a resistant one that I eventually used a straight razor blade to gently lift it off!![:@]

Scary, but worked well.
