Default DIY Powder coating kits

Has anyone tried the do it yourself powder coating kits? You buy the kits and use your wife's oven to do the baking? What's the quality etc?

As far as quality... with the equipment, you get what you pay for. The finish quality will be determined by how well the part was prepped, the quality of the powder used, your ability to keep airborne contaminants off the part while shooting, the technique used to apply it and whether the part was cured properly.

If you're gonna use a household oven DO NOT use the one in your kitchen that will be used to cook food again. Powder coat gives off a small amount of volitile organic compounds (VOC's) during the curing process and, depending on the cross-linkers used, some powders smoke a little as well. Get an oven dedicated to the hobby and use it in a well ventalated area.

Good luck, and have fun with it!

Divorce is also a by product of using the kitchen for garage projects.

Some things are made to be off limits, like the oven you use for cooking! I can't see how a do it yourself kit would produce the same quality. Kinda like operating on yourself to save on medical.
