I spilled some caustic cable lube on the black texture paint on my '98 Heritage. It peeled away the paint in the spots where it dripped. H-D sells the paint for my application and my question before painting is are there any tips one could give to avoid any major snafu's? I have never used a textured paint and was curious if anyone had any success using it on their engine? Other than cleaning and scuffing prior to applying the paint is there anything else I should look for?
Make sure you have a heat lamp or good hair drier on hand,. The crinkle paint I used on my Ironhead had to go on a warm surface, and the second (heavy) coat will wrinkle better if you can heat it up.
Good Luck.

What reffixer said. It definately needs to be heated up to krinkle properly. You can pick up a shrink tube heat gun at Harbor Freight cheap. DO NOT USE AN OPEN FLAME TO HEAT IT UP like someone I know tried to do.
