Default Where to tap in to 12 volts for a 2610 GPS on Electraglide

For those that have a GPS mounted on their rides. Where did you tap into power at? Does anyone run it off of the accessory power switch? Is there a power lead that is already ran off of the accessory switch in the fairing?

Thanks in advance.

I put a Lowrance iWay 500C GPS on my '05 Electra Glide. I tapped into the bike's 12V power by removing the electrical leads on the back of the cigarette lighter (blade type connectors) and using them to power the GPS. Simple.

Make sure it's fused.

Good point.

The pos side of the garmin power/audio cable has an inline fuse. I allowed extra wire on the positive side so I could gain access to it under the fairing, in the event a fuse would blow. I really didn't want to take the fairing off to change a fuse...

I tapped the front fender light.

I swapped out the cigerette lighter for a Powerlet socket with a snap closed cover and a right angle plug. I never found a "good" cigerette plug that wouldn't hit the tank on a hard left turn. I don't smoke anyway. Also replaced the stock fuse with a much smalled one (don't remember what size) Much easier to pull the side cover off then the fairing.Powerlet Sockets

Those are all good solutions, but to answer your question... the accessory switch goes to one of the pins on the customer plug under the seat. Of course the switch is near the fairing, so you could tap it and carry the wire wherever you wanted without difficulty.
