Has anyone heard how to get a more accurate reading off thier ambient air temp gauge? Mine always seems to be about 20 degress high. I am assuming the sensor is in the fiaring ('05 Ultra). I would need to pull the gauge, and reroute the sensing wire to an outside location? Any advice would be appreciated.
It actually is reading correctly. It is supposed to give a reading of the air emcompassing the bike. Basically, you need to imagine a bubble around the bike. It is meant to measure the air in that bubble.
My advice...toss that piece of junk air temp guage in the garbage. I use my body for an air temp guage...if it's hot, I sweat...if it's cold, I shiver.
Replace that guage with an oil temp guage and be done with it.
You can move the sensor. Just remove your outer fairing, extend the wires and drop it down the left fork tube. Tie it off to the wires that go to the front fender.
Takes about a half hour. It will then be pretty accurate.
First I dont know HD to well but, the air temp sensor isn't the intake air temp sensor{IAT} is it? . because if it is I don't think you want to move it out from the intake. or the ecm won't adjust fuel/ignition properly.

No, we're talking about his ambient air temp guage in the fairing of an Ultra.
I moved my to right beside the headlight, there is enough air moving in that area that my gauge if now accurate. I only takes a few minuts once the fairing is off.
