Battery tender issues 22 Street Glide
#21
Put a battery tender on and even after a few hours can’t get a green light.
I read (intuitively, anyway) the OP’s first post as he plugged in his tender, not necessarily installed it.
I had one instance a week ago where mine stayed on yellow light charging for hours. It usually doesn’t take nearly that long on my 2020 FLHX. I’m using that $40 Harley tender.
I unplugged it at the pigtail, plugged it back in. Charged in twenty minutes.

He led me to think he plugged his tender in to the lead. Any way the factory lead does not have an In line fuse. It is with out question part of the harness. And the fuse is in the Fuse box period..
He needs to stop where he is and read up on the tender he has. Clear up if he added pig tail or is using the factory installed one.

I suspect that adding a tender means simply that he connected it up.. The bike already has a tender connector.. Also if you look at the pic of the connector, it has the extra connection for fast charge.
BTW, the extra connection is not for passing additional current. Just telling the charger that extra current can be supplied.

I am surprised how many do not know the cable is part of the harness and fuse in no loner in line but in fuse box and it is a 20 AMP fuse.. I am shocked how many do not know the bike already has one. Seems dealership dropping the ball IMO.
The third wire chargers and cable are nothing new they have been around awhile.
When purchasing a new bike After you pick the one you want , ask Questions get answers. Don't just drool over the bike.

That third wire only seems to be present on the pigtails that have the status LED in the pigtail. Don't think it has anything to do with actual charging.
OP, if the status never goes "good", check the connection of the pigtail to the battery. I've seen loose/dirty connections fool a tender.

The OE 3 pin connector doesn't have an LED indicator, and is hardwired into the main harness accessory circuit. HD used to sell a 5 Amp Global charger that utilized the 3rd pin. When the charger was connected to a 2 pin connector, it charged at 2.5 Amps. When the charger sensed the 3rd pin, it automatically charged at 5 Amps.
