Default M8 Softail Jiffy Stand Spring

On my M8 softail, I managed to remove the spring from jiffy stand. But reinstalling it appears to be a real b$tch. Any tips on doing this as the spring is pretty tight and I'm not a super heroe lol

Loosen the nut at the top of the stand itself so the locking doo dad is above the tab , then you'll be able to pull the stand back far enough to get the spring on , then tighten the doo dad back up . Remember , you can only install the spring one way , or else it will rub up against the frame .

I have seen a video showing that. Unfortunately, the M8 softail jiffy stand is a completly different design and that won't work.

I installed a shorter stand for a friend who had her bike lowered. Prior to removing the spring I jammed coins in between the coils to keep the spring extended. It worked well for me and perhaps you could use this method somehow, even though your spring has already been removed.
Best of luck!

I put one end of spring in a vise, and used a big screwdriver to stretch the spring enough to jam coins between several coils. Then install and pull coins out with pliers.

Thanks for the suggestions guys ... one of these should work for me . The eclips I ordered should be in on Thursday ... so will proceed with install then. Yes the new jiffy design is horrible. The only thing that is holding the pin that goes through the leg of the stand is an eclip. Due to the design of the stand ... the leg wants to dig into the ground on uneven surfaces. This pushes the whole pin assembly upward and appears to be popping off the eclip. It has popped off 3 times on me.

I'm unfamiliar with M8 stands, but on twin cam era bikes I remove the nut (11/16) and locking tab. Swing the foot end of the stand all the way forward towards the front wheel. The spring will go on without any need to stretch it. Replace the tab and nut, done.
