2000 mile service?

By the 1k miles service, your initial break-in should have occurred. After the initial break-in, I am a believer in synthetic lubricant products in all three holes. If you switch to synthetic lubricants, don't use the HD products. Buy your preferred brand of synthetic lubricants and take them to the dealer to use in your 1k service. Different folks will have different preference for which non-HD brand of synthetic lubricants is best, but most of us agree that you can do much better than HD products. Red Line offers a box of the lubricants needed for each of the three holes plus a fuel additive for the gas tank. You also get some nifty free stuff with the package. By buying the package on-line through Amazon, you get the products at a price that is less than buying them individually plus a box to take them in to the dealer.
Now that my warranty is expired, I will do my own service interval inspections and fluid changes since I have a good set of tools that includes two torque wrenches.

the 1000 mile service is probably the most important one to get on time or a little early even. Even though manufacturing processes are better and cleaned than they used to be theres still alot of crap floating around in your motor, trans and primary. All that stuff is breaking in during that first service interval. Will your bike survive? Sure it will, but it takes me longer to go get the stuff I need to do a service than it does to actually do it. Whether you do it yourself or have am indy do it keep records and receipts in the event of a warranty claim. Ill add this as number 22 on my list of why I may never buy another used bike lol.

I have 2 within an hour I'd trust with any HD of any year. They work on 1903 to present, in house machine shops, great techs. One of them happens to also like to run Nitro Harleys, the other has a lot of connections to EBR it seems.
Trust both - zero reservations.

Yes, some of the dealer mechanics are first-rate, BUT not most of them. My secret is that I tell the service writer that I will be checking the bike before I pay for the service. If anything is not right, I go straight to the dealer GM and point out the problems. I am viewed by many people in the service department as a "problem customer"; so, I am assigned to an old mechanic that knows what he is doing. It is OK to be a demanding customer. As long as you are polite, it is their problem if you are not popular. Now that my warranty has expired, I will be doing my own maintenance any way.
