General Topics/Tech TipsDiscussion on break in periods, rider comfort, seats and pad suggestions. Tech tips as they become available will be posted here.
First, sorry if this is the wrong thread to post this in. I wasn’t sure where else to put it.
After I got done changing the battery on my Sportster, I noticed someone had tried to drill into my fork lock. Fortunately, the lock did its job and I still have my bike. Unfortunately, I can’t get the forks unlocked.
Any suggestions on what I need to do? From what I’ve gathered, the only thing to do is tow it to the dealership and have it replaced.
Yes, you will need a new fork lock kit keyed to your key code. Did this happen at your residence where it was parked outside or something? Perhaps you could finish drilling it out yourself. That, or have it towed to the dealer.
This is the procedure for removing the fork lock, requires some (hopefully) precision drilling and an extractor to tap it out. It can be an enormous pain in the ***, even with the best tools. Probably just tow it to a shop.
As crazy as this may sound - it's true.
When I had my 883 Iron, the fork lock simply fell out as I was riding ... just fell the f--- out!
Retrieved it but never got around to re-installing it, right up to the day I traded it.
