hi peeps,
I have a question here, i am stripping down my fatboy, build 05/99.
i have just been looking for piston rings and come across a problem.
it has what looks like a evo engine but the piston part number is 22091-83c after looking in the manual the part number does not exist.
then i went onto google and found it states this is from a 1450 engine.
i know about looking at the derby cover and so on to see if it is a tc or evo. but the problem i got is that the lifter rods are spaced apart like the evo and the rocker covers are 4 bolt not 6 bolts also is split in 2 parts.
can anyone help me please

The number is for an EVO piston...

Piston and rings part numbers depend on what size. Not sure if you can just buy the piston any more, you may need to purchase the piston and ring set together.

The rings are available without buying the piston.

Check the parts manual, or call your dealer, don`t trust the numbers found in a google search...

So further to evo problem my derby cover has 5 bolts not 3. The other is the push rods are nearly touching at the base. And like I said the rocker covers are from evo engine
Do you think this has had a rebuild before with the derby cover being with 5 bolts and not 3 as I am a bit lost at the moment also the oil filter lines go downward and not across like the Tc.
it just a bit confusing to me as I am new to hd.
Call me thick but need help please as I am doing a complete refurb all new bearings throughout.
dont want to order wrong stuff can be costly lol.
The reason for posting piston number is that I'm not sure which rings to get (which size/oversize) that is why I looked up the piston number.
I appreciate all you guys on here and hope I can pick your brains in the future. I am also doing a rewire on the bike all new cabling with new looms/harness throughout I will be purchasing stock stuff if I can get them so anyone with decent contacts with good prices would be much appreciated. As I live in the UK this stuff is not cheap and only option I have at the moment is Ebay as I dont want to go to stealerships.
The other thing I am struggling with is oil pipes(formed ones for my bike). Cant get them anywhere. These are rubber ones not steel.
all my pipes and wiring will have copper braiding over the top of them afterwards as I am doing a total blackout on the bike with copper bolts and braiding with a few copper covers after.

One more time....

The part number on the piston is for the piston only.

The parts manual shows a part number for a piston assembly (piston AND rings). They may not sell the piston without rings.

Take the cylinders to a reputable Harley machinist and have him fit new pistons/rings bore/hone etc.

Also have the machinist true the bottoms of the cylinders.

Don`t forget to cover the openings on the crankcases, transmission, primary etc. Important.
