Default Cold weather riders: do you need heated handgrips if you have heated gloves?

On my commute to work in the wintertime I'll be doing 90 in single digits.
I've always put heated handgrips on my bikes.
On this particular bike I like the look of my existing (non-heated) handgrips but would also like to ride it in the winter.
I already have heated gloves, are the heated handgrips even necessary?
How cold do you ride with only heated gloves?

I have the heat demons in my bars and they heat the grips very good. I also wear heated gloves. The gloves are great for the fingers, the grips are great for the palms. I like to use both at freezing or below. Above 40 the grips do just fine without the need for the gloves.

Uh...why not try the gloves only and see what happens.

With an effective wind chill of -24 degrees F, that's impressive. I think you'll need a bit more than just heated hand grips.

Heated gloves and grips do different things. Grips only heat the inside of your fingers and palms, but can be great on chilly summer evenings. Heated gloves should heat the backs of your hands, which is much more effective against real winter cold, although there is no reason not to try both!

I've had both heated grips and gloves. Heated gloves work better, but I don't care for the added bulk and lack of control, but I also have small hands which exacerbates that issue.

Heated grips on my Street Glides have worked well, they get very warm, I've never run them past 3 of 6, usually between 1 and 2 does it. The fairing on the Glide and I don't have apes, so the back of my hands are not really in the airstream.

That said, coldest I'll head out is in the mid-upper 30s. Never single digits.... So my experience may not be relevant.

Coldest I've ridden in with just heated gloves was 13F without the wind chill, and with wind chill was probably -5F, and my hands were still toasty, but that was with clear handguards. The handguards will also help block the wind off your hands, which will allow the gloves to heat your hands better, and not lose the heat, or at least half of it, in the wind. I tried the grips, but I guess mine were too cheap and didn't work well at all, even at only 40F. I have also tried the heated glove liners, but they don't work even half as well as the gloves. Must be something about the material the gloves are made of. My Gerbings are not "bulky", either, at least not any more than my thick deerskin leather gauntlets with liners in them. I found mine on eBay for less than half what they would have been new ($80 verses $180). If you're going to be daily going through single digit temps for a month or two or three, you might want to get an entire heated set (jacket liner, pant liner, socks/insoles, and gloves), and add the heated grips or handguards, and seat heater, too. Of course, with that much gear drawing power from the bike, you would probably have to put it on a charger every night, or suffer from a dead battery pretty quick.
