I used to take the white medical adhesive tape and wrap the bar in a spiral. Then squirt some lighter fluid in the grip and spin/slosh around the inside of the grip, then pour the remaining over the bar and tape. note: didn't use a lot of fluid!!! then slide the grip on and locate, let it sit and dry for an hour or so. Held the grip solid. Then when it was time to replace, screwdriver into the grip and bar and squirt carb cleaner or brake cleaner in there. Of course these were all rubber grips on my dirt bikes too!! but the tape/adhesive/chemical reaction between these would hold the grips solid!!
