Question Red Light

Thought that would get your attention :-D
The red ignition light is stopping on after the engine starts. Now I know the sort of things it can be but is there anything easily checked before I send it to the garage please?

"Stopped on" ??
Do you mean stuck on?
Check all your bulbs.

The ECM is like a check engine light and also give you a heads up if you have a bulb out. A very common occurrence if people change to LED bulbs.

You probably have at least one trouble code that you should check. I don't know what year bike you have, but you can search on line for "Harley Trouble Codes" and find out how to check for them.

Larsfum, I have a 1988 1200 XLM Sportster, I don't think it has trouble codes :-D

I didn't think they had red engine lights in 88. Post a picture, it might be your oil light. Which would indicate low oil or a faulty oil pressure sensing unit.

I think it may have had some mods R73. It has an alloy plate that the H/light is suspended from that contains 4 lights, Green/Neutral, this Red/Ignition, Amber/Indicators and Blue/Main beam. And as you can see from the picture it has a double tank with mounted speedo and ignition switch, neither of which are standard for this model.

If it's not electronic it's an oil light.
Only 5 indicator lights. 2- signal, 1 neutral, 1-high beam, 1-low oil pressure light.
