Default First DIY Clutch Adjustment

Noticed that my clutch was beginning to drag at stoplights. Pulled out the manual a read Harley's clutch adjustment procedures. Was not impressed with their write up so went to Youtube to see what was out there on how to's. Came across this link [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf-5_XL-mMU"] which gave some great tips.

Had some trouble getting jam nut off since whoever adjusted last time cranked the mother down. Went to Ace and found a replacement jam nut for 50 cents. What I liked about replacement jam nut is it's higher profile. Will make it easier to use 11/16" box end in next adjustment.

This is crazy talk, thats why I did the same thing.

The only difference is by having the correct size nut in the shop I saved the $.50 to spend on chrome.

A offset box wrench even works better. Just my 2 cents.

Think it's an 11/16ths. You can weld (or epoxy) a suitable nut to the ratchet-end of an 11/16ths socket and use that (wrench holds socket-nut...1/4" Allen through center turns adjuster) and have a very spiffy Clutch Adjustment Tool (CAT). Or you can use a box-end/offset wrench as described...whatever gets the job done.

In my experience the lock-nut doesn't have to be Herc'd down. Just 'snugged'. The adjuster won't move if it's snugged...unless there's another problem with the clutch.

There's a 'quck adjust' (or something like that) thread on this site (a Search should find it) that describes a good clutch adjustment method. I believe it's a sticky in the Transmission forum. Might take a look at that, too.
