Default 2005 fxdci stumbles

I have a a stumbling problem with my 2005 fxdci. A few weeks ago it started with a fraction of a second stumble like either the power or fuel was shut off. It has gotten a bit worse today. I was far from home when it started to get worse. When I got closer to home it sure seemed like it got worse in turns. A few blocks from my house I did some heavy weaving and the first couple of times I did it the stumble got worse. I'm thinking something in the tank? Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

The inside of your tank could be rusting. If you have a fuel filter, disassemble it and see what you find inside. You can also drain the fuel into a bucket and see what other than fuel comes out. You might see rust, which could be in chunks or fine like sand, and/or pieces of the tank lining. If either is present you probably will have to have the tank relined or replaced.

Fuel leaks could also cause the issue. If so, you should notice a strong smell of fuel. Your fuel pump could also be failing. Though, I would start with the fuel filter and tank drain first.

Good Luck!

Do a fuel pressure test first. There may be a hole in the fuel pump hose.

It on does this when the engine is warming up. Once the engine is warm it is fine.
