Breatrher Gases/Oil

Breatrher Gases/Oil
My 2002 FLHRI seems to have excessive breather oil. I had an SE breather with K&N filter installed a long time ago. This is the one with hoses that connect to the rear of the backing plate and go into the air filter. I finally got tired of seeing oil dripping on my cam cover and cleaning the filter every few thousand miles.
I converted the backing plate to the one which has the rubber breather plugs that come out of the breather screws and point directly toward the throttle body.
Problem solved, right? Nope, although the air filter doesn't get saturated with oil anymore, I still get drips from the backing plate/air filter seal down onto the cam cover. Isn't the oil/gases supposed to go in the intake?
BTW, the bike has 73,000 miles on it. Could it be the umbrella valves in the head?

Problem Solved?
OK, here is an update. I checked all the advice on modifying and venting breather gases to atmosphere. I just couldn't warm up to all the hoses and clamps.
Took the filter off again and really examined the backing plate, where the filter seals. I noticed some roughness on the lower edge of the plate. Taking a fine metal file I began to smooth the area when a large chunk of excess chrome plating fell off. I guess the air filter wasn't really sealing. I didn't think much about it and re-assembled everything.
Well, two weeks later and a couple of 100+ mile trips and no drips!
I am a Mechanical Engineer but just can't get a handle on the physics (vacuum, pressure?) of what goes on in the air cleaner/throttle body that would cause this to happen.
Any ideas?
