I got this from another forum:

Cut/copied/pasted/ quoted from Dealer Letter;

April 2, 2007

To: All U.S. Harley-Davidson and Buell Dealers

Subject:2008 Model Year Phase I Online Vehicle Ordering

Dear Dealer:

Your 2008MY Phase I Harley-Davidson and Buell orders will be
available online via the Vehicle Order Management Application on
Wednesday April 11, 2007 and will be due Wednesday, April 25, 2007
by 3:00pm CT (Central Time).

Order Order Type
Phase I Harley-Davidson RG
Phase I Buell BU
Phase I Buell Provisional ST
Phase I VRSC Provisional PV
Phase I Rider's Edge ED
Fall Demo DO

Important! You must submit each order individually from the Order
Status page, including all Provisional orders. If you do not wish to
request Provisional units at this time, simply click the submit
button to send your order to Harley-Davidson without entering any
quantities. Failure to submit these orders will result in an expired
order which may disqualify your dealership from Harley-Davidson
Motor Company programs and promotions.

2008MY Phase I Harley-Davidson

The 2008MY Phase I Harley-Davidson (RG) order has three separate
allocations: BIG TWIN, SPORTSTER and VRSC. These allocations have
been separated into the months of July, August and September based
on current production rates. The 2008MY Phase I allocation is based
on a percentage of your dealership's last twelve months of retail
sales as opposed to an estimated 2008MY Sales Unit Allocation (SUA).
This approach uses the most current retail data to react to market
specific trends.

In this initial Phase your dealership will be ordering 2008MY
carryover models only. New models will be announced at the Summer
Dealer Meeting in July and will be ordered for your dealership by
Harley-Davidson Sales Administration. Orders placed for any new
models will be available for your dealership to view at the SDM. You
will be able to make limited model, color and option changes to your
Phase I orders following the SDM as the model, color and option
change flags on the Vehicle Order Listing on h-dnet.com indicate.

Please use the following chart of Big Twin production mix as a guide
when ordering your vehicles online.

TOURING FAMILY 55%
DYNA FAMILY 14%
SOFTAIL FAMILY 31%

VRSC Allocation Information

The VRSC family allocation process is based on retail need as
opposed to a Turn and Earn quantity. Please refer to the 2007MY
Sales Support Programs for an overview of the VRSC family allocation
plan. The allocation plan has not changed from the 2007MY program.

In Phase I each dealer has been allocated one VRSCDX model. In order
to see what month your VRSCDX is in, you will need to completely
expand the VRSC Family by clicking on the plus sign (+) next to the
VRSC family. You will then see a line for the VRSCDX model. You will
know which month this model is in because the ADD link will be
active. Simply click the ADD link on the line for the VRSCDX model
to place your order for this unit.

Your dealership will be able to submit Provisional (STOC-subject to
order cancellation) orders over and above your VRSC allocation for
all VRSC models including the VRSCDX.

To submit a Provisional request for VRSC product, you must go to the
Provisional Ordering tab. Provisional requests will be filled as
availability permits and based on retail need and are not considered
confirmed until an order number has been issued.

Fall Demo Ordering

For the Fall Demo program your dealership will be able to order a
minimum of 2 units and a maximum of 5 units. Your dealership can
order no more than one demo unit from each model family. Your
dealership will also be able to order one VRSCDX model as a Fall

Oh wait, let's add to the rumor mill. I heard that the reason these models are discontinued is only in part due to sales. At least that is what they are saying is the reason to pull them from production.

But the reality is that these models will be reborn as next generation models sporting the new TCIIC - the 21st century twin cam phase II WATER-COOLED platforms. There might be some delay in their release however as they are trying to find a way to utilize the frame tubing as the coolant reservoir in lieu of a bulky, ugly radiator.
They could just ask Honda how they did it in 1984...........
Gee sounds like a Microsoft/Apple kind of thing

I gotta call BS. There ain't no way Harley gonna drop the Wide Glide and Softail Standard. These are top selling models in my area and have been huge money makers for the MoCo. Talk about shooting ones self in the foot if they did.

mm Lots of ppl say BS MoCo never lets on about the coming year.. but I just found this in an old thread about Heritage springers being dropped 2003/4

Here is a copy of the letter HD sent to dealers announcing the discontinuation, no mention of why:

February 18, 2003

To: North American Harley-Davidson Dealers and Distributors

Subject: Models Discontinued for the 2004 Model Year

Dear Dealer:

As we prepare to mail your last order for the remaining 2003 Model Year production (July/August 2003), we’d like to advise you of some model changes for the 2004 Model Year that may impact your model selections.

For 2004, we will be discontinuing two models: the Heritage Springer - FLSTS/I (both carbureted and injected) and the Dyna Super Glide T-Sport – FXDXT. The Heritage Springer has production capacities so changes to or new orders for this model will be limited. There is no production limitation on the FXDXT.

We felt this advance notice would help you to prepare for that last ordering phase and keep your customers advised of the changing model mix. You will be receiving your final phased order for 2003 M.Y. production at the end of the month.

Sincerely,

Sheryl M. Manhoff

I was the first one to call BS, until I got my color charts. It's not a matter of BS......these models no longer exist on the 2008 color charts, I can NOT order any of these models....done...gone....caput....buried.....it was nice knowing you........DISCONTINUED. BTW, the standard is gone because they are keeping the Night Train and Softail Custom, which they think is enough. The Wide Glide was never a big seller (don't get me wrong, I think it's a great looking bike.....but the numbers were not there). Harley does not wait until the dealer show, to release info on discontinued models......they never have.

I'm going to hijack this very important thread for a moment to ask markdt; what year is your FXRS? I'm rebuildingthe first year production (basketcase) into a mild custom and like the looksof yours.

Unless you were planning on buying one of these models in 08 , who cares . Automotive companies are dropping and re-adding to thier inventory all the time... Mark...
