In some ways I hope they do discontinue the Wide Glide , making my CVO FXDWG3 all that much more a collectors item .

Harley Davidson is not a stupid company, I can't see them getting rid of the WG, If they do it would be for a year to bring it back better than ever. Nobody can keep them instock around here. I had to go 70 miles to find mine and even then it was march of '05 and they had 2 left and didn't think they would get any more new ones until the 06's came in.
Why stop making a popular model??
This thread is worth as much as the one that said that they would go to a 103" motor next year and the other one about the Street Bob being gone next year.

Believe it, it's true, they won't be back for '08. FXST, FXSTD, FXDWG, FLHRS, FLSTSC, XL883R, VRSCR, VRSCX, XL50 are discontinued. I read the dealer communication myself.

My PERSONAL take:

They SHOULD go to 4 models max! The market isn't going to sustain having all these models!
Then why don't auto makers go to that?

1 truck model
1 SUV model
1 sedan model

That should be enough for any driver on the road.

Fact is, that would end an automaker.

And it's not like there are vast differences in the model lines. So the NiteRod is not a major expense to incur. But losing the sales due to NOT offering sure would be.

The only thing shocking about this list is the FXDWG, one of the best looking HDs IMHO.

FXST, big deal the softail custom is nicer anyway. Guess if you take away the standard how can the custom be "custom"?
FXSTD, I didn't even know what this one was, had to look it up, the Fat Boy is nicer.
FLHRS, just another "custom", still have the standard Road King
FLSTSC, I guess some people like the springers, I don't like the look.
XL883R, you should buy the 1200 anyway.
VR----, whatever (I know I could get flamed for this) they could cancel the whole V-Rod line for all I care.
XL50, 50th anniversary bike, no kidding it will be cancelled next year.

I was shopping one of the local dealers yesterday and in conversation with the very attractive sale woman she mention the Duece being gone for 08, but not the others FWIW. People have mentioned the WG being popular, which I would have thought as well, this dealer still had 2 -06's plus and 06 Street Bob left and they are a larger dealership. Had an 06 WG with alarm and the charcoal gray color marked down to $15995 plus sales tax OTD, down from $18300. The Wide Glide and Softail Custom do seem very similar to me for their intended purposes.

Essentially, anyone of those bikes can be built out of the parts catalog. Maybe that's what they have in mind? It supports the MoCo with parts sales, and the dealer with after-the-sale installations for the non-mechanically disposed. It also has implications for the assembly lines at the plants...

I heard the same rumor about a week ago.

Wide Glide gone...Too much like Bob & ST Custom.

Wonder if they will have a "harley chopper"...3 years too late! If not, I suspect it will be reinvented in a few years. History has shown this to be so with many others, including ST Custom, springer, etc.
