This old chestnut always comes up.

Now in my personal opinion I am fine with it, I like filtering at a light since most riders without trying hard will smoke the commuter cages off the line. Did it on a trip when we rented a bike sure was nice.
California Vehicle Code (CVC) is a state traffic regulations/laws which all law enforcement agencies and all other interested parties must enforce by it. However you mentioned many municipalities do have ordinances. This is simply untrue as they cannot make up the traffic laws that does not exist in CVC code.

There is no CVC codes on traffic splitting and our CA lawmakers never presented a bill into the house, making some amendments to CVC and California Highway Patrol only make commonsense guidelines for riders and drivers on lane splitting.

I always ride 10mph more than other vehicle's speed but max at 30Mph in streets and lanes. When at highways, max at 45Mph when safe.

Liberals... Special privileges only apply to them.

Unless it's a motorcycle trooper, you're not going to have any real pursuit in gridlocked traffic- personal experience.

No comment other than to say an officer on a Harley should not even attempt to pull over someone on a CBR in traffic. That is all.

Not only do I know of a motorcop on an HD who pulled over a guy on a CBR (i'm almost positive it was a 929RR, and yeah, the guy started to run and then stopped) after the guy went flying by him, I also know of a cop in a Crown Vic who pursued and caught a guy on a Harley who fled into a park after riding through those poles set in the concrete to keep cars out of the park. The guys dropped his bike on the grass as the Crown Vic came into the park from around the corner.

It's not a free pass, even when you think it would be.

I'm still surprised by how many riders that think lane sharing is unsafe. I wonder how many of those guys ride without a helmet.

Oh no you didn't! Now you've gone and done it. I'm also OK with abolishing helmet laws, since I live in a state where I am free to choose.

No kidding! After all, we all know that there's no chance of a driver stopped in traffic opening his door without looking.

No chance at all.

LOL!

Sounds like you have first hand experience of someone doing this.

Of course the sky could fall too.

LOL!

When cops attempt to pull over fast bikes the problem tends to sort itself out during the pursuit.
