handlebar replacement cost.

handlebar replacement cost.
I have a 14 CVO Road King and want to change the bars. It is a fly by wire throttle and has cruise. I have been getting a range of quotes from 10 hours of labor to 5.5 hours. Obviously this makes a huge difference of price for the job. Anyone else have this job done? And if so, what was the labor time you paid?
Thanks

You better sit down. If a MoCo shop does it you'll be around 750-1K. If you have an Indy do it then 600-700.

Depends what bar you're changing to, and whether you want them internally wired or not. I was quoted 10 hrs. to install internally wired mini-apes on my bike.

I'm replacing stock 09 Road King bars with the 14 Heritage bars. The quotes were 2.2 hrs, 6.5 hrs and 11 hrs all knowing that the wires did not need to be extended. I went with the 2.2 hr quote as they have done a lot of these and seemed to know what they were talking about. I guess we will see when the job is done.
I know.. ..get a service manual and do it myself..available time and complete dislike for electrical keeps me away

Spend the 60$ for shop manual and do it yourself, it's not that difficult, especially on a road king. I did my own in roughly 4.5 hours, internally wiring the bars. I used LA chopper FL bars that had nice bends and no sharp angles and the wires shot right through. If you are going above 10" then you will have to do extensions and add an hour or two to the job. My cost was the bars and manual.

What are these "extensions" of which you speak? Are they actually additional sections that can be added to the existing cables? I was under the impression (mistaken, hopefully) that you needed entirely new, longer cables.

I think he is talking about wiring harnesses for the controls, and yes they make extensions for them.
Cables on the other will have to be replaced.

I put 12" apes on my Electra Glide about 5 years ago. The cost was about 500 for the bars and new throttle cables, new clutch cable and longer wires. It took me 11 hours, but I put an easy pull clutch kit on at the same time. Harley quotes 10 hours labor for a handlebar change on an Electra Glide. Outer fairing, inner fairing, gas tank, exhaust removal. I just had to loosen the tank and exhaust, not totally remove. I could not have done it without the shop manual.
