Poor mileage

Have you tried Michelin Commander II tires? They're great tires and get better mileage than the stock Dunlops. They handle and track better too.

There is an app (of course ) called Motominder that is a great little tool for keeping track of things, including your mileage,,, accurately.

Actually I'm going to put one on the rear in the next week or so. I'll wait another 8k for the front when it wears out.

How can you guys get 35-37mpg in city traffic? Do you mean in the city, like stopping at traffic lights every other block or so but otherwise easy commuting or do you mean heavy city traffic with a lot of first gear stop and go constantly with some little queues like when you see the red turning green and the traffic moves so slow that you get a red light again ? This is what I get almost every morning, and my Stage1 96' Dyna doesn't do better than 26mpg. Of course it doesn't help that when I see a bit of clear road I gun it..

I don't recommend anything, still learning at 73.
the lowest octane that will run in your motor without detonation is what I run.
the higher octane burns slower , and gives less power than a lower octane that burns faster ..( that's why it doesn't ping)
problem lies with your compression, and total timing, ignition, and cam.
If your motor is modified to the point of detonation on low octane then you must run a higher number.
If it runs well on lower octane ,then you are wasting your money ,and getting a little less power with a higher octane.

Thanks for the responses! I have a 6 gallon tank.....so I guess I'm getting right around 33 mpg. Keep in mind...this isn't much stop and go riding or interstate speeds...mainly 60-75. Also.....in my area....91 is highest fuel. Our choices are limited to basically 87 or 91. I do have a stage 1. I will also clean the air cleaner and see if that helps.

Set up, tune, weight, drag, riding habits and geographical location are all factors in MPG. As long as your bike is decently tuned then you just need to accept it for what it is.
