Worn out rear tyre
My OEM Dunlop rear tyre is already worn out at about 6,500 miles.
I ride my Bob two-up most of the timewith a rear presssure of 40 psi.
Any suggestions for a tyrewith more durable compound.
Thanks in advance!

RE: Worn out rear tyre
Must be driving style as I have 10k on my EGC's back tire and I wont be looking to change it out for at least another 2k. About 50/50 on the 2up riding.

Quit doing burnouts I'm at 22k miles and have some useful life left on my 2nd Dunlop rear tire. A harder compound will increase tire life, but give less overall grip. Some other factors may: be road abrasiveness where you live, or if you are a mostly rear brake guy. I think heavy rear braking shortens rear tire life dramatically.

How often do you check your air pressure? It doesn sound like you're coming up short. My 1200 C has 12,000 miles on it and it's will need replacing in about another 1,000 miles. I do ride one up.

RE: Worn out rear tyre
I ride one up all the time (solo saddle), run about "normal" for acceleration, drag my footboards once in a while on turns, and try to use the front brake for serious deceleration. My first rear tire was ready to replace at 10,000 miles. The replacement looks like it has about another 5000 miles worth of tread, and I have 16000 total mile on the machine. I am told this is normal life. The rear tire has a lot of work to do, it does all the accelerating and for a lot of people most of the braking as well. Since the tire is rounded, the actual tread in contact with the road is pretty small, there is only one tire on the rear axle so wear is increased dramatically. And the tire compound has to be soft enough to give good traction when cornering, so it is going to wear faster. It is just a fact of life that a motorcycle will need new rear tires far more often than a car will.

yep carl 6500 miles bout average for me to with the 160. i used metzler the third go around which milage bout the same.but i prob go back to dunlop now seeing sum reason the 160 metzler went up bout 50 bux from a independant shop.i looked in j&p catolog they want over 200 dollors for the metz 160!
I can get the 591 dunlop from indy for 129 dollors. I dont think your gona find a 10k mile tire in that series if you do let me know also.I also asked about the radials some have been putting on to get a wider tire.I was told milage would be half of the bias so radials are out for me.
Oringinal dunlop 5300 2nd dunlop 6500 3rd tire metz 880 currently 6200 past wearbars
