Buying parts at the dealer/Reward points
I have visited a dealer in the past that is about 45 miles from my house and I bought some parts there a couple of times.
When you buy parts they give you a Loyalty card. They say that for every $1.00 you spend you get 1 point.
I now have 160 points on my card.
Today I was there looking into buying roughly $1,000.00 worth of stuff and even though I asked them what the 160 points meant towards my purchase, they never really gave me an answer. Oh, but they will give me double points if I buy something today. So I left without buying anything. I still don't know if it is worth $1.00 or $50.00!
I am considering mailing them the card, and telling them to keep it, and I will buy my parts at my local dealer where they give me a 10% discount right on the spot. No rewards....No points...No BS!

At the dealer where I bought my bike, they have a similar loyalty program. You can't claim your points until they reach $500 though. I'm with you: I'll just spend my money where I can get a discount up front.

My dealer gave me a loyalty card when I bought my bike. Bought some parts that day and asked for a discount. They gave me 10%. When I gave them the loyalty card they said I couldn't have both a discount and points. I gave them the card and told them to keep it. I haven't been back for parts.

I buy almost everything with credit cards. Fast food, utilities, groceries, insurance, my last scooter, etc.. My State Farm Visa gives me State Farm Bucks to apply towards my Homeowner Insurance. My Harley Davidson Visa gives me Chrome cash to spend at a Harley dealer.
I only post because people are apparently in favor of shopping with discounts. If you use certain cards, and don't carry a balance, it can add up to a good discount sometimes.

My dealer has a rewards program that was free when I bought my bike there. No card or anything - they just record purchases to your account and they accumulate. I'm not sure what the dollar/point value is, but you can use the points for anything - service, parts, a new bike, etc., etc. I think it's a pretty good program, though. The fact is, even without it, I'd probably still buy the same things that I buy there now. I just consider it a little bonus, I guess. If you didn't buy a bike there they charge you $30 initially, but that's for a lifetime.

Same here. We use the HD card for everything. I pay it off every two weeks so I never carry a balance. Over the last three years I've gotten right around $3000 if free stuff. Can't beat that with a stick.
