Gas milage

Gas milage
I took my bike in today for it's 1000 mile service and one of the issues I brought up is bad gas milage. It only gets about 32 - 34 MPG. He said that isn't bad. I read the specs for the bike are 44 - 50 and he said those numbers are never right. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. What kind of milage do you all get?

RE: Gas milage
I would not go by the specs.
Those are under some sort of ideal conditions.
I think on average I get around maybe 35 to 40
miles per gallon...That includes hills, flat, etc.
I think that works out toanywhere from 150-200
miles per tank. If you have a fuel gage don't rely
on it either.....trust me on that one...

RE: Gas milage
I'm more concerned that it isn't running right. Low horsepower was another issue. I'm thinking they might be related. In other words I'm not so concerned about the gas milage as I am just making sure it is close to where it should be. I haven't been able to go more than 135 miles on a full tank even on the freeway.

Your bike's just fine. Those HD numbers for gas mileage are B.S. My '07' Heritage Classic gets 35 mpg. I replaced the stock ECU with a Thunder-Max. I'd rather have the engine running a bit cooler than worry about a few more miles per gallon.

RE: Gas mileage
Your mileage sounds about right, I'm getting 30 mpg around town and around 40 mpg running the freeways...if I keep it under 80mph. I have V&H exhaust, SE A/C, SERT and had mine dyno tuned, it is running cooler but I think my gas mileage dropped a little.

RE: Gas mileage
mine is real simple when I need more I stop and get it. It has worked so far. The only difference in now and 40 years ago no 1 would ever believe what 5 gallons of gas cost now.

RE: Gas mileage
I usually get around 30mpg in the city and 40 - 42 on the highway travelling at 70 - 75 mph. The best I've ever gotten was 48 mpg on a group charity run doing around 60 mph through the local hills.
Cheers!
