A little ROAD RAGE, can go a long way.

A little ROAD RAGE, can go a long way.
I was telling my wife this story yesterday and with her (positive) reaction it made me think that maybe other people would appreciate it.
I don’t know if anyone else has had this happen much but it seems to happen to me way to often.
Around here (socal) if you are driving through a grocery store parking lot (in a cage) people coming out of the store or a parking spot will walk right in front of you knowing that you will stop for them… I don’t do that myself because I still remember as a kid the rule of thumb; look both ways before you cross the road (or parking lot in this case) and if there is a car coming wait until they pass before crossing.
I think people have become complacent now because I have seen (and had) people walk into a parking lot with out even making eye contact with a driver. And even worse with out even looking before they step into the road way!
Well now, I tend to ride my motorcycle to the store (at lunch or what ever) and I don’t think people realize that it is a really bad idea to walk in front of a motorcyclist in that same way. And a couple times I have had to go into emergencylanding modebecause of some idiot walking into the road way without hesitation!
So the other day I was riding through a parking lot and as I was slowly going over a speed bump this lady steps off the curb right in front of me (busy typing away on her cell phone) and I mean RIGHT in front of me! So I grab the clutch, the brake and drop my feet to the ground… but my rear tire was still on top of the speed bump. By time my feet finally found the ground Ihad yelled W.T.F! And as I stabilized the bike and looked around (it must have been louder than I thought) because it seemed like the bustling parking lot just froze! About five people were stopped with there kids (or lunch dates) and the Lady looked at me like I just killer her 1st born…
So I said to this lady “DID YOU EVEN THINK TO LOOK BEFORE YOU WALKED IN FRONT OF ME?”
Well she drops her shoulders and very calmly says…. I am so sorry, I feel like a child that just ran into the street after a ball. I can’t believe I don’t even remember stepping off the curb!
By that point my blood pressure was boiling over and I wanted to roll onto that throttle and mow her down, yelling expletives all the while!
But I realized she made a simple mistake and she was lucky that I practiced the crap out of emergency stops during the motorcycle safety class I took 2 years ago.
So I grumbled a “well think twice next time” and “sorry I yelled…” and rode off. So it goes to show that sometimes a well placed moment of road rage can go a long way. Because I am positive the 4 or 5 other people standing in shock, heard our exchange and WILL think twice before they step into to road way!

Seriously though, it is nice to hear that someone actually took responsibility for their actions...a rare thing these days.
