Default Good Sounding Exhaust

I'm new to the forum, having bought my first HD today (a new Street Glide). I'll bet this topic has been beat up lots in the past, but I did some looking around and didn't find any current posts about it, so here goes ...

I must replace my factory mufflers with new mufflers that will give a much healthier, deeper, louder sound. What brand/model of muffler is generally regarded as thebest sounding and loudest? The answer to this question is subjective and I'm sure there are plenty of opinions - and I'd like to hear them.

Thanks...
Steve

Welcome, neighboroonie! Where did you get your ride from?

You're right Steve, opinions on this will vary like a$$holes! My two favorites are Thunderheaders (what I have on my 05 Glide), and the Rineharts. The ones I would really love they don't make anymore (White Bros. model). Both the 'Headers and Rineharts have different applications though. Thunderheaders will give you the most gains on stock or slightly modified motors, Rineharts sound awesome on bigger motors (103" +)!

The loudest will always be a short pipe on a huge engine.. basically under your ear and with no baffles

The deepest rumble to me is the best sounding with a lot of throttle it gets louder but still deep.
My V&H Big shots are pretty loud but not extremely loud. They aren't the deepest sounding either. They do have good performance tho.

I guess I could change out the baffles on mine to a Thunderhead or such and have deeper tones, which to me would rock!! I would like to hear them before I bought tho.

Best bet for you.. go to a rather large dealer on asunny weekend day, and people on their Harley's will show up and you most likely could strike up a conversation or at least peek at what they have on the bike. So youcould get an opinion before you buy. Not to mention the dealer might have several to show off.. and no not just S.E. Slip ons..

Pythons have alot of bass. Love the Rhinehart's, too. Those a bit pricey, though. Personally, I'd suggest you decide on a style, then worry about sound. Most sound good, just some a little better than others. However, not all are as durable (quality heat shields, etc) or look as good.

I have V&H (Big Radius) and they are rather loud (baffled, even). You can get even louder, but dunna see why.
