Why do I let myself get sucked into these stupid conversations.

Why do I let myself get sucked into these stupid conversations.
As most of you know, I am somewhat over reactive when people make condescending comments about groups of people...(most often it seems to be women in general, but it could be racial, demographic, econonomic, it could be religion, political, size, shape, colour or creed ... what ever). It seems there are so many thatare of theopinion that these categoricallylimit a persons intelligence, sensitivity, ability, general importance... you name it.
These conversations seem to often result with a "oh, I am only kidding"! "I don't really mean it." My question is ... then why do people insist on saying this stuff? Granted, it's not just directed at me personally, but as woman, a parent, a motorcycle rider, a breather of air ... the list goes on and on ... I am offended when someone paints everyone with such a condescending tone in such a passive aggressive manner.
Maybe I speak up about it, when I shouldn't ... but it's really hard to standby when someone is being mocked. It's cruel and unjustified. Sometimes it's just seems too easy for someone to spout obscenities and insults when they really don't give a crap about who they hurt. When they're called on it, theycoldly express regret and say "Oh, I am just kidding".
I know we have bantered back and forth about what some men think of women, often on this forum. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I can handle that.Perhaps some have come from very bad relationships withthe women in their lives and have really been hurt by it. It's hard to say where this comes from.Everyone has a story.
And it's notjust about women, but many subjects. I have heard such moronic comments like "Any man who wears a pink t-shirt is definitely gay", for instance. Not that I have anything against gays (or pink T-shirts for that matter), doesn't that kind of comment bug you?
Words can hurt.

IT doesn't bother me....but then again I'm not a Liberal.
I'm not a "P.C." type of guy....not a modernized guy either. Refuse to be domesticated, and be turned into a pu$$ified "Alan Alda" type of fella.

Chill out...you're wrapped way too tight apparently....it's probably because you're a woman. Women love drama and like to make a big deal out of every little thing. They also look funny when they ride motorcycles.

Hmmm. Relax. Nothing is permanent: Buddha. Console yourself with the fact that men who make disparaging comments about women generally have small johnsons.

BikerGirl,
While I do understand what you are saying, I think you may be taking many comments a bit too seriously. Yes, the forum can get "dark," and if you are looking for sensitivity, this is probably not the best forum. Many of us are fed up with the extreme "political correctness" sweeping our society. For those who express bigoted vie2ws, all I can say is consider the source. It won't take long to understand whose post you can ignore.
I think most of us try to go with the flow - and although it does sometimes get out of hand, we really are speaking with the proverbial grain of salt. You might also note that the lady members areas good at dishing it out as are the gentlemen. Historically, we have to hold up the traditions of the "macho" biker trash that we are - but I think there is a great deal of tongue in cheek heroics.
I've been impressed with the contributions of most members and think, all-in-all that this is a pretty good place for good scoop, friendly banter, and to vent, when necessary.
I hope you continue to contribute and look forward to your continued posts.
Respectfully,

Damnit traveler, will you change that avatar! I have a hard time concentating on your posts!!!
And bikergirl, some people are just plain ignorant. Trashing other people must make them feel better about themself. If they didn't **** me off so much, I'd probably feel sorry for them. [:@]

I did notice that when a comment was made about women, and how they ride, that about a hundred men on this forum flamed the dude for his stupid statement. You will never get rid of the biggots, you just have to speak up and move on.

BikerGirl, Don't be so sensitive. Like Ol Biker said "consider the source". It's easy to be an A$$ when you're anonymous.

Hammer02, are you trying to provoke her?

Whoa... That was close. [sm=laughingsmilie.gif]
Bikergirl40, you care and that's cool. There're lots of a$$holes out there and sometimes we need to call them on their crap.
Keep the faith. [sm=deal.gif]
