When I drove the dragon I stayed at Tellico Plains, TN. The Lodge at Tellico has a couple of rooms that have garages for Motorcycles

Just got back from a trip to TN the first of this month....stayed in Gatlinburg...towed the scooters...rode the Dragon the first day, almost wiped out on the third curve by a Heritage Classic...three other times by guys on go-fast bikes crossing the line...one crazy to ride road but on the bucket list...never again...like living to much. If you like twisties, the Moonshiner is a great ride with lots of twist and turns...probably more so than the Dragon...lots saver. Cherohala Skyway is a great ride...honestly you can't go wrong on any rides in the area...just loose the map and enjoy...I'll be posting a few photos in my Gallery. Enjoy and ride safe.

Last year we travelled from Maine to The Dragon. The boys Iron Butt'ed it to Greenboro, NC where we met the wifes who took a plane ride down. We did it in 16-hours and timed it so the girls were on final approach when we arrived.

The following day we rode to The Lost Sea, in Sweetwater TN. From there we visited Bushs Bake Beans (ok, ok..) then rode Cherohala Skyway to the 2 Wheel Inn and did the Dragon.

We eventually looped back to Greenboro and zig zagged our way back home hitting Chesapeake Bay Bridge and York, PA as other major sights.

I am absolutely going back to this area to see all the other roads/areas we missed. You cannot go wrong riding in any direction there.

Maryville is a nice town. 25 minutes from the Dragon & 40 minutes from the Cherohala Skyway. Plus, one of the nicest & best Harley dealerships in the country is there. Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson.

I stayed in Robbinsville. Right at the Dragon and Cherohalla Skyway. Inexpensive and pretty much in the middle of good riding.

Agree with this....

last yr after doing the dragon and stopping in the Store at the end of it, we went East/ on 28 (good ride also),, to Fontana Village, We rented a cabin (5) of us and had a great stay and a good time...

^^there are a dozen roads better than 129 through Deal's Gap. Deal's Gap is like a tourist spot now, so we go when we're there just to take pictures and buy a sticker
