Wears Valley or Townsend have motorcycle friendly cabins for reasonable rates. Hot tubs, washer & dryer etc. Townsend is real close to Foothills Parkway maybe 60 miles to Dragon.

 

Maggie Valley Inn & Conference Center & Holiday Motel, both in Maggie Valley. Owners of both places love having bikers stay there. To give you a hint, the wives like staying there.

Bryson City NC. Maggie Valley, NC, And Gatlinburg, TN. Fantastic riding all around this area all the way down into north Georgia. The Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, The Rattler, Moonshiner 28, Six Gap in north Georgia, and Hwy 32 Out of Cosby, Tn, which is twistier than the Dragon and almost no traffic. Have fun.

if you come down I-79 to rt-19 south at Sutton, make sure you watch your speed on rt-19 thru Summersville area into Beckley. can you say speed traps! they're thick as flies.

When we go we always stay at fontana village resort (http://www.fontanavillage.com), its 11 miles from the southern point of TOTD and a great, quite resort. It is in the middle of nowhere though. They have a restaurant and general store on site but as far as other places to eat its about a 30 min ride. Also if you call ask about the dragon slayers discount.

 

We usually rent a cabin off wears valley road, west of pigeon forge, there is a back way into the park that has little traffic and you can bypass all the crowds in gatlinburg but can get to the blue ridge to maggie valley. Its also a nice ride from there to the dragon via the foothills parkway.

 

Maryville is another small town within riding distance. Great bargain!
