Scavenger oil change system
#21
well , one of us is wrong...the oil feed is from the tank to the pump, pump
puts it through the engine. then the scavenger side of the pump pushes it through the filter , and then is returned through the tank..
also , my oil pressure guage comes up during this time
seems backwards to filter the oil as it is returning to the tank , however that's how it works.."google on HD oil schematics"
disclaimer : my latest HD is a 03 twinkie, but my 01 SS works the same way .
maybe it has changed ???

For the twin cams, it's as I described.

On the TC, oil flow is from tank>pump>PSI sender>oil filter>engine>sump>return

There is a plastic clip that clips the oil line into the tank. I've never had the issue of it pulling out after an oil change. Also, you can buy the replacement clips if it becomes an issue.

This is my oil puck that I put together for around $12
I agree that it's not essential to purge the used oil out of the engine at each oil change, but for me it's cheap to do and cannot do any harm.
If it was essential then MoCo would be doing this, particularly on machines that are still under warranty and they are servicing.

I haven't found where you can buy those separate, but that tool releases the plastic latching device that holds the oil return line in the tank.
