Why are people either afriad or overly-polite when I am riding?

Have you ever noticed this...
I realized it years ago...If I am in my car and in regular clothes I am treated normally. When I am on my bike and I have leathers on, peopleare sometimesafraid to make eye contact and make sure they leave a more-than-normal amount of clearance space when they are walking past me.

I haven't gotten that sort of response too often in my "biker attire"but last summer at this littlerestaurantthere was this one Soccer Dad that was walking up to the area where you get drink refills.....
He looked up,noticed me,changed his expression and started doing the "moonwalk" backwards.OMG....for a momment I thought he was going to pizz all over himself and his neatly pressed khaki dockers....
I felt a little bad about that, but on the other hand it was funny.

Have had it happen a few times. But more often I get the over friendly people at a gas station etc... I actually had the almost EXACT conversation from the commercial.... "Harley, dinette set...... Had to go with the dinette set...." (greatest Harley commercial EVER, BTW) mine was along the line of "Harley, washer and dryer..." My lolvely bride and I laughed for the next 50 miles.

This is funny, because where I live in NH, I think the bikers out number the cars. No one seems to pay us any attention (except on the road)as they are more than used to us by now.

If you're wearing the new "Harley uniform", they may not be afraid of you at all. They may just be avoiding eye contact and close proximity because they figure they'd laugh their azz off, to your face, otherwise.

I mean anybody that is wearing the "uniform". After all, it does look kinda humorous to most folks.
