Keep it forever or trade?

RE: Keep it forever or trade?
ORIGINAL: Hitecrednek...I'm concerned about big repair bills down the road, and also losing the value of my investment...
And...Trust me, these things aren't investments. Harley doesn't make a bike that's investment grade IMHO. They are gonna depreciate, and the market value for certain bikes is gonna be less. As is the marketability of certain bikes depending on your area.
You've got a nice looking softail....Do regular maintenance and ride it.

Well you're definitely a loyal bunch, butsome of you (that are new to bikes) will find that once you've done everything you want to do and torn it down a couple of times, you'll get bored. I haven't had a bike more than 4 yrs. Half of my enjoyment, is working on my bikes in the winter, but once I'm done, that's it.....time to move on to the next project. I build for 6 months, ride for 6 months - over a 4 yr (or less) period - then I sell it.

Yeah, I am pretty much the same, take a pretty decent hit when I trade but what the hell, I aint leaving the money for my kids to fight over.
And, i do love woking on the bikes, engine mods, chrome, etc, half the fun IMO

RE: Keep it forever or trade?
my sportster is for sale but I ain't gonna give it away. I still owe about what it should be worth. I found a good deal on a Road King and bought it for cash. Really seems stupid to do it that way, but that is what I did. I have a bunch of extras on the Sportster. I have thought about parting it out piece by piece on ebay but it is too nice to mess up that way. I just ride the quick little sucker a little less often now.

Another thing to consider is resale is going down on bikes lately and you take a bath trading it in...
I know a guy who bought a Deuce for $53k. (many mods.) He likes to give girls rides so he wants a bagger. The dealer wanted to give him $17k to trade it in a year later....OUCH!!!

I keep all my vehicles atleast 8 years. Right now I have a 1993 chevy S10, 2003 GMC Sonoma, 1999 Jeep Cherokee, 2005 Vulcan 500 (wifes) and a 2006 Street Bob.
They're all paid for, are in good condition and run great so why get rid of them. I will keep my bike for a long time. When I buy another I'll have a choice of what I want to ride.
