My experience has been the longer you keep them the more they are worth.Had a Shovel SuperGlide over 10 yrs.sold it for near 3 times what I paid for it.

Keep the old one andmake room inyour garage for more. Only trade it in if you are "done" with that bike and want to move on to a bike that you perceive as better suited for your style of riding.

I have no intentions of trading my bike in. One of my biggest regrets was trading in my 1973 Triumph Bonneville, years ago.

thanks for all the opinions! I think Hackd nailed it: I'm concerned about big repair bills down the road, and also losing the value of my investment.

I'm thinking it might be better to keep her....

- at some point it will stop losing value; at some point its value will keep up with inflation (?)
- three or four payments = major repair
- it is carb'd so it may pick up in value
- it has a spoked rear wheel, which I like better than the current mag rear wheel
- I've read that the newer ones with wider back tires don't corner as well as the older ones with narrower tires (??)
- my seat collection won't fit a new bike
- I like it!

(in a few minutes I'll change my mind. Or lose it!!!)

Well you're definitely a loyal bunch, butsome of you (that are new to bikes) will find that once you've done everything you want to do and torn it down a couple of times, you'll get bored. I haven't had a bike more than 4 yrs. Half of my enjoyment, is working on my bikes in the winter, but once I'm done, that's it.....time to move on to the next project. I build for 6 months, ride for 6 months - over a 4 yr (or less) period - then I sell it.
