Steady or Flashing Brake Lights?
#11
RE: Steady or Flashing Brake Lights?
I have the HD turnrunbrake module.
I dont like the idea of flashing.
I just want them on and BRIGHT.
I consider 3 brake lights superior to one flashy one.
I ride with groups a lot, and am road captain most of the time.
I want a solid light.
I do occasionaly tap the brake a couple of times to let people behind know that I am slowing down.
But I do not do that often.

RE: Steady or Flashing Brake Lights?
I have the turn sig conversion to brake lights. I am in the habbit of flashing my brake lights a few time every time I'm coming to a stop.

RE: Steady or Flashing Brake Lights?
I have a Panacea taillight, and I use the 3 flashes then steady mode. IMHO, anything that makes me more visible to dopey cagers is a good thing!
Cheers!

I've replaced the HD turn/brake light module with Kuryakyn unit which adds the running light feature to the turn signal lamps. I now have the option of having the brake lights flash before coming on solid when the brakes are applied. I do not like riding in formation with a bike with that feature ahead of me. I like to know if the person is just tapping the brake to slow a bit or if he's ON the brakes. You really arent' sure until the flash function is over and the lamps have gone solid. I also like the idea of a 'cage' following me getting alerted out of his nap by the flashing of the brake lights. What's your take on this topic?

RE: Steady or Flashing Brake Lights?
I have the regular brake light, but like others have posted, Iblip my brake pedal a few timesa short distance before I really brake. Also when I am stopped, if someone is coming from behind I blip the brakes a couple times. I also stop far enough from the vehicle in front and at enough of a diagonal so I can escape, if somethings coming up from behind too fast.

I have converted my rear TS to run/stop/turn RED LED's. Very bright. I also added a REDLED bar to the top of my license bracket with the back off module.
Flashes 4 times, then solid for 4 seconds and then flashes 4 times, etc., etc.
Catches the attention of those behind you when you are stopped with the brake applied.
It seems that folks don't pull up as close behind me when I am at a red light...

RE: Steady or Flashing Brake Lights?
I have gotten used to riding with groups and doing at least a triple tap on the brakes. Riding in close quarters here in DC area, I try to give either the other riders or cagers behind me as much information as I can. I had a blinky blinky brake thing on a VFR when I was riding Jap, and it died twice, I gave up and started learning to ride with my pointer finger covering the brake. Three taps, then solid for slowing down, or stopping seems to do the trick. If my finger breaks, well, i am not riding for a while.

I put the BACK-OFF module on the wifes Deluxe and have it on the 3 flash-steady-3 flash-steady. We have stupid drivers here in NC, and I want to do anything I can to make sure the cage behind her notices the bike... especially at night. It took me 48 years to find her, I want to keep her as safe as possible. On my Ultra, there are 9 lights on the back end. Ray Charles could see that!
