Default Helmet's a Damn Echo Chamber

I dropped a few bucks last August on a Nolan N44 convertible helmet. It looked like the best of both worlds: A full face when I wanted one and I can remove the chin guard to have a nice 3/4. To top it off it has a flip down sun shield. Well I have now ridden several hundred miles on it and even with ear plugs it sounds like an echo chamber! Wind noise and the exhaust just too much. It actually fatigues me. I may look at modulars. What do you all recommend in a modular helmet?

It sounds like an echo chamber as a fullface or 3/4? I don't know if it comes with a chin curtain but sometimes they help keep a helmet more quite. I also thought that maybe the helmet is too big on you and lots of air is getting in it?

As far as other modular helmets I have a Caberg Duke that I use occasionally in cold weather or rain but I had to order it directly from Italy. I like it....it cost me $200. I'd compare it to any $500 out there.

If you don't know about this link already take a look at this. Great reviews. They cover everything from fit to visibility to how quiet a helmet is.

Yep has the chin curtain and it is a little better as a full face but still sucks. I read the reviews about it being noisy but shrugged it off. I hate wasting time and money. Thanks for the tip I will check it out when I am home in my easy chair.

Meat curtains will shutter the noise and add flavor to your ride......

No problem. Sometimes it's a crap shoot picking a full face helmet. I kept it simple though. Got a free Kawasaki HJC CL16 from the dude I bought my sport bike from that just happen to fit, then after some research I bought the Caberg modular for the HD's. Noise doesn't really bother me....my main concern was visibility. I've worn the Caberg maybe 4 times since I bought it 2 years ago. I wear the HJC only when I ride the Kawasaki. But I know dudes that have gone through a half a dozen helmets before they found the right one for them. I've had exactly that many in over 30 years of riding. lol

Get a 1/2 or 3/4. Or for real enjoyable riding, a do-rag and eye protection.

Maybe you need different plugs. I wear earplugs that target shooters wear and I can't hear my wife talking, when she's standing in front of me. And I have excellent hearing. I got them at W-M.

Been wearing a half helmet for ten years. Wanted more protection and hoping for less noise. Not yet...

I bought a full face for the same reason and wore it twice. Back to a 1/2 or none. If I need more protection I'll take the jeep.
