Doing away with the secruity system?
My service guy said I didn't have to take it if I don't want it, heck that would be a $275 dollar saving's, I'll have insurance if it get's stole, I could buy a detach back rest, or cruise control, or a new seat, or a remap, or many poss.
What you thoughts, security or not.

TN,
What year and modle is the Sec System from.
I have an 06 Heritage and the module is on backorder from HD until 9-19.
If it's from an "06" softail or part number 68207-00D I would give you the 275.00 for it.

I would use the money elsewhere. I have the security system and I think I've used it 3 times in 7 months. It is garage kept and I work on a Marine Corps base so it's safe at work.

Just think of the mods that you would get for the price of the security system. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

I like my security system, I use it quite a bit. At least with it on they have to carry the bike off, they can't make it start and when people start to put their hands on it, it gives them a warning, the other thing I like is you can add a pager which in a certain radius will let you know it's going off. Wouldn't it help lower the insurance rate as well?

RE: Doing away with the secruity system?
I use the security system all the time on my Heritage Classic...
If I'm at work (civilian contractor on a "secure" AF Base), I lock the ignition switch and enable the security system. I also do this when I make extended stops at a place like Wal Mart, etc. This keeps someone from running my battery down (ignition lock), and keeps them from starting it (security system). I'm sure they can defeat both the ignition lock and the security system with a little work, but at least my bike is not easy pickin's for the "hop-on-it-and-go" thief. It will take time and draw attention while they try to defeat both of these road blocks. Depending on the "seediness" of the area, I lock the forks and as an added measure I will cable-lock it to something big.
However, when I make a quick stop and walk away from my bike for a few minutes I only use the security system. When I'm in the gas station paying for gas or using the restroom, a crook can't hop on it and run away. Even if they do switch the lights (ignition) on, the battery will not run down in the short time I'll spend away from the bike.
Bottom line: 1) If I'm walking away from my bike, I hit the key fob (hanging from my belt loop on a carabiner). 2) If I'm walking away from my bike for a while, I hit the key fob and lock the ignition. 3) As an additional measure I will lock the front fork. 4) For the added level of security... cable-lock it to something solid.
Realistically, we are just keeping "honest people honest". Real crooks will take your bike.

OBTW, get you a cover that says "Honda", "Kawasaki", or "Suzuki"...

Insurance can take months to get your a bike or money....I have the factory system and love it. It may not be perfect, but I sure don't worry about the bike everywhere I leave it. Hell, you don't even have to lock it with the alarm on.
